Acupuncture for Menopause
Navigating the Second Spring
Perimenopause and menopause represent one of the most significant "gateways" in a woman’s life. While modern culture often focuses on what is being lost during this time, Chinese Medicine traditionally views this transition as a "Second Spring"—a shift in energy that allows for a deeper connection to oneself. However, the physical reality of hot flushes, night sweats, and "brain fog" can make this transition uncomfortable and challenging.
Acupuncture is a safe, non-hormonal option for those looking to manage the symptoms of perimenopause and menopause. According to the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC), research indicates that acupuncture can significantly improve quality of life during this time.
What to Expect
My clinics in Hackney and Central London are designed to be quiet sanctuaries. Your session is a dedicated hour of "non-doing" where you can safely let go. During a life stage where you may feel like your body is no longer your own, these sessions offer a chance to reconnect and ground yourself.
During your Initial Consultation, we will delve into your past and present experience with your menstrual cycle; we will discuss any discomfort and pain—both physical and emotional. It is important to me to offer a space of safety and non-judgement, where your decisions on contraceptives, HRT, or other pharmacological interventions are your own and can be complemented by acupuncture.
Often, acupuncture can help with the side effects of certain treatments or with symptoms that don’t seem to be improving with Western approaches alone. We live in a society where women are frequently judged for the decisions they make about their own bodies—this is an opportunity to be listened to, empowered, and supported. Your choices are your own, and I am here to augment and support your recovery.

The Science Stuff:
Regulating the Body’s Thermostat: Research indicates that acupuncture can help reduce the frequency and severity of hot flushes by influencing the hypothalamus—the part of the brain that regulates body temperature.
Balancing Neurotransmitters: Clinical studies suggest that acupuncture can increase levels of endorphins and dopamine, helping to stabilise mood changes.
Improving Sleep & Anxiety: Evidence shows that acupuncture may improve sleep quality by increasing the production of melatonin and down-regulating the sympathetic nervous system (our 'fight or flight' response).
